A Perth pensioner struck a woman half his age with a plank of wood after becoming enraged that she used his garden gate.
James Laughlan, 71, Newhouse Road, was found guilty of carrying out the attack on Fiona Duncan, 36, on February 22 last year at Seven Acres Park, Perth.
At Perth Sheriff Court, Sheriff Fiona Tait said she did not believe his claim that he had been attacked by Ms Duncan and had been punched several times by her.
Laughlan was found guilty of assaulting Ms Duncan by striking her on the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
He was also found guilty of repeatedly striking her on the head and body with a block of wood and his fists, to her injury.
