A blood-spattered Dundee street was cordoned off after a suspected assault.
A man, thought to be in his early thirties, was taken to Ninewells Hospital after he was found with facial injuries on Dundonald Street.
Police were alerted by the ambulance service after paramedics took care of the man and officers quickly moved to cordon off a stretch of the road.
A police spokesman said their inquiries are at an early stage and that they are still investigating how he got his injuries.
CID and uniformed officers were on the scene and made inquiries, including door to door questioning.
Residents living on Dundonald Street were shocked by the incident, which took place shortly after 3pm on Monday.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, said there had been a lot of trouble in the street for as long as she could remember.
She said: “It’s a different thing each day here. It’s bad when it gets to the point where you are scared to go outside your own front door.
“It’s my grandkids I’m most afraid of for their future. I’ve lived here for years and it’s sad to see people end up hurt like that.”
She said drugs is an issue in the area and she had watched some of the area’s children grow up to have troubled lives.
Many residents, even those living within the cordon, which surrounded tenement blocks 35 to 41, were aware of the police presence but were unsure of exactly what had happened outside their own front doors.
