A Tayside resident became the victim of a high-value fraud after giving their bank account details to telephone scammers.
Police Scotland has warned that the Perth householder received an unsolicited telephone call asking them to transfer funds to another bank account.
A Broughty Ferry resident was also the victim of an attempted fraud after they were contacted by telephone.
The householders were asked to transfer funds to another account by people either pretending to be from their bank, or pretending to be a police officer investigating a financial crime.
Both were unsolicited calls claiming that there was a problem with either their account or credit card.
In both cases, methods were used in which the fraudsters informed the person to call their bank.
However, when making the call the victims were instead unknowingly connected straight back to the fraudster.
This deception allowed the criminal to obtain sensitive personal and financial details, in which the victims were ultimately asked to transfer funds to another account.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Be very suspicious of unsolicited calls that you receive in relation to your financial accounts. In addition, never tell somebody your bank PIN number, even if they claim to be the bank or police.
“If the caller is genuine they will never ask for this information.”
