Talk of boycott won’t worry Blatter Alex Salmond says Fifa chief’s ball still isn’t burst

Talk of a possible World Cup boycott is “huff and puff” and will not cause Sepp Blatter to lose any sleep, former First Minister Alex Salmond has claimed.

Writing exclusively for The Courier, Mr Salmond said Blatter should resign but that he will undoubtedly hang on.

“Despite Fifa being mired in seemingly endless scandal and now having the Feds on the cases of his key lieutenants his ball seems far from burst,” Mr Salmond wrote.

“Of course he should resign but there isn’t much chance of that.”

Describing Blatter as a “great survivor”, Mr Salmond said the World Cup’s global audience of one billion will be enough to overshadow any potential boycott.

“He (Blatter) won’t be wasting any sleep over the threat of a boycott,” the MP continued.

“The European associations will huff and puff but no-one will blow the World Cup money making house down.”
