Around 400 metres of the northbound carriageway was affected after a vehicle shed hydraulic oil at around 3pm on Monday. A specialist cleaning crew was brought in to clear the substance off the road before the evening rush hour. The entire operation took two hours and caused long tailbacks. A spokesperson for the Forth Bridges Unit said warnings about possible delays had been issued to motorists heading north during the afternoon. The spillage was cleared quickly but the approaches to the bridge were much busier than normal.
