Court hears of Angus man’s life ‘completely destroyed’ by alcohol

An Angus man who assaulted his wife has had his life “destroyed” by alcohol misuse, a court heard.

Alexander Gurinovich from Letham appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court and admitted grabbing the woman on the arm and forcibly rocking her body back and forth on April 5.

He further admitted causing a breach of the peace at Conil Place in the village, by shouting and swearing on the same date.

Defending the 33-year-old, solicitor Robin Beattie said his client had taken to drinking excessively, which has caused him to attend court frequently.

“As a result of this he has incurred three convictions in the last six months,” he said.

“He lost a very good job in the oil industry in April.

“His life has been completely destroyed by this and he is trying to start again.”

Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “The issue of whether or not you start drinking again is one for you, not for me.

“What is a matter for me is the relationship between you and your wife.”

Sentence was deferred to December 3 for good behaviour.
