A once neglected hotel building has been given a new lease of life thanks to a £1.5 million makeover.
The Palace Hotel in Aberfeldy had lain unused and boarded up for a number of years but has been transformed into a luxury guest house by a local family.
The Girvan family, who already own the Station House bed and breakfast in the town, snapped up the property when it came on the market in 2012.
They will run the hotel themselves, in addition to the B&B, and intend to open new restaurant and bar facilities for hotel guests and locals over the coming months.
Blair Girvan said: “We have been steadily building our presence here in Aberfeldy for some time now, having first set up the Station House bed and breakfast back in 2012.
“When the Palace Hotel came up for sale this seemed like the perfect time to further expand the business.
“The building itself had been boarded up for some time and it has been great to watch what was once such a well-known site in Aberfeldy being transformed into a location which we hope will be enjoyed by both visitors and locals alike.”
The refurbishment of the 15-bedroom hotel has been partially funded by Bank of Scotland.
The bank’s relationship director, Michael Thomson, said: “It is great to see businesses like Girvan Holdings investing in the preservation of historic towns such as Aberfeldy.
“Girvan Holdings have dedicated themselves to securing the future of traditional buildings in the local area and we are pleased to have been able to provide support at what is an exciting time for the business.”
