Young Dundonian Andrew Henderson living his ice hockey dream
ByIan Roache
Dundee-born teenager Andrew Henderson has returned from Canada to pursue his sporting dream in the United Kingdom.
The 18-year-old former Grove Academy pupil has signed for English National Ice Hockey League Division One side Invicta Dynamos, who are based in Gillingham.
Andrew, who plays in defence, has spent the last two years at the prestigious Ontario Hockey Academy in Canada but has flown back across the Atlantic to boost the Scots contingent at Dynamos.
He has joined fellow Dundonians Adam McNicoll and Mark McGill at the Kent club, which finished second to Chelmsford Chieftains in the NIHL last season.
Understandably he is excited at the prospect, saying: “I feel very lucky to be doing something that I enjoy and being paid for it.
“I will be playing ice hockey at a good standard, probably similar to what I was experiencing in Canada.
“My time at the Ontario Academy worked wonders for me, both as a player and academically.
“It is great that I have a couple of other Scots here in Adam and Mark and they should help me settle in.”
