Fife’s car community united on Saturday evening to pay tribute to tragic teenager Brian Phimister.

The 16-year-old, of Kirkcaldy, died at the scene after the BMW 3 Series he was travelling in smashed into a tree on the A955 between Dysart and Coaltown of Wemyss last Friday morning.

A car lover himself, the former Balwearie High School pupil was said to have been a regular at local “cruises”, where enthusiasts gather to show off their vehicles.

In tribute to the youngster, Glenrothes Car Club called on cruisers from across the country to unite in the town on Saturday evening to commemorate Brian’s passing.

Among those in attendance were Brian’s mother Charlene and step brother Sean, alongside his own Vauxhall Corsa, a project car he had been working on before his death.

A special “30 seconds of noise” was held at 9pm, before a convoy of vehicles drove to the scene of last week’s fatal accident to lay flowers, the road closed temporarily by police to allow the cruisers to pay their respects.

“I spoke to him a couple of times,” said organiser David Ferrier.

“I saw him at car meets so knew of and spoke to him a bit.

“We are part of the car scene and that is pretty close-knit.”
