Forfar Athletic have snapped up Kevin Nicoll from Angus rivals Arbroath after the 28-year-old turned down the chance of another season at Gayfield.
Nicoll, who has also played for Albion Rovers, Stranraer and Dumbarton, joined the Red Lichties in January 2014 and showed his versatility in both defence and midfield during that time.
Arbroath manager Todd Lumsden had offered Nicoll, the club skipper, a deal to return last month but after four weeks of negotiations Nicoll advised that he was not returning and he has now agreed to join the Loons.
Lumsden said: “Kevin was made an offer before the play-offs had even finished but he never accepted and we had a hint that he was looking elsewhere.
“We have now had that confirmed so we can now look for a replacement.”
Meanwhile Nicoll said: “I am delighted to have agreed terms with Forfar and cannot wait to get started with them on Tuesday night.”
Nicoll becomes Loons boss Dick Campbell’s fourth new signing of the summer after Bryan Hodge, Tom O’Brien and Iain Campbell as he looks to build on last year’s campaign, which saw the Angus side lose out to Alloa in the Championship play-off final.
The veteran gaffer is hopeful of adding one or two more new faces, though he has lost the services of veteran defenders Darren Dods, Stuart Malcolm and midfielder Omar Kader.
