This is the five-tonne mountain of food that charity bosses expect to fly out the door to needy families in south Angus within a fortnight.
The Angus Foodbank has opened its fourth distribution centre in two years, on the back of a “shocking” demand for emergency food aid in the county.
Shutters went up at the Arbroath centre only days after the service fed its 4,000th person in two years.
Along with the new volunteer-run Gravesend centre, the Trussell Trust-run charity operate a local headquarters and distribution centre in Forfar, and centres in Brechin and Montrose.
The increasing use of foodbanks in Angus and the Mearns follows a warning that families are facing a situation “reminiscent of Victorian days”.
Foodbank use across the area has swelled over the past two years and beleaguered projects are looking to winter scenes comparable to the novels of Charles Dickens, according to campaigners.
