One of Kirkcaldy’s oldest hotels has been put up for sale four weeks after its sudden closure.
Offers are being invited for the category B-listed Strathearn Hotel on Wishart Place, which shut on May 17.
Leaseholders Stephen Stewart and Tina Syme, who took over the hotel in April 2014, gave shocked staff just a few hours notice of the closure.
Many couples who were due to wed there later this year were left disappointed and hundreds of pounds out of pocket.
Now Bruce Taverns, owners of the popular Victorian venue, have decided to put it on the open market rather than seek new tenants.
The building is being marketed by Kirkcaldy estate agent and surveyors, Graham and Sibbald.
The firm’s Colin Devine told The Courier: “There is no business there so it can’t be sold as a going concern.
“It’s a matter of whether or not we can find a buyer for it as a hotel or for alternative uses.”
He added: “We don’t know what the planners will allow so whether it’s residential, a care home or something else I don’t know.
“That would be a matter for the buyer to discuss.”
Mr Devine said the owners would be open to offers, adding: “We are in a world where putting an exact value on something that’s not trading is very difficult.”
He said that despite being empty for several weeks, the building was still lovely with some excellent features inside.
“It would be nice to find another hotel operator but we’ll just have to see who’s out there,” he said.
