A man who murdered his cousin during a disturbance at the home they shared in Dunfermline has been jailed.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Daniel Ross, 26, pled guilty to the murder of Gavin Ross at a flat in the Abbeyview area of the town on April 30.
Gavin, 28, sustained a number of injuries to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ross was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 15 years in prison.
Detective Sergeant Neil Seath, from the Police Scotland Major Investigation Team, said: “Gavin had taken his cousin into his home as an act of kindness and was subsequently subjected to a significant level of violence, which led to his death.
“Daniel Ross was detained shortly after and remanded in custody while detectives investigated the full circumstances of this incident and built a case against him for trial.
“His guilty plea and sentence today reflect the commitment of Police Scotland and our partners at the Crown Office in removing violent offenders from our communities.
“Our condolences continue to be with Gavin’s family and hopefully today’s verdict will offer them some form of closure and allow them to move forward.”
Following the murder, Gavin’s family paid tribute to him, describing him as “a much loved son, father, brother and nephew”.
They continued: “(He) will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.”
The statement, issued through Police Scotland, added: “We are still in shock with the loss of Gavin and we respectfully ask to be left alone to grieve in private at this very difficult and sad time.”
