Angus councillors still retain thousands in payments despite their roles being dissolved
ByGraeme Strachan
Two Angus SNP councillors are to retain thousands of pounds in committee payments despite their roles being dissolved.
Combined ‘wages’ of £6,700 will still be paid to Mairi Evans and Sheila Hands even though their respective positions of convener and vice-convener of the development and enterprise committee have been axed.
It has been proposed their status will be transferred to that of a “leading member” position.
However Arbroath independent councillor David Fairweather hit out at the move claiming the cash should be withdrawn and spent elsewhere.
He said: “This is less for more and I don’t think this is acceptable.”
The row broke out during a meeting of the full Angus Council in Forfar during which Mr Fairweather tabled an amendment against retaining the payment.
