A gang thought to be behind a series of raids on cash machines across Tayside and Fife may have struck again.
An ATM was stolen from a Tesco supermarket at Newtonhill near Stonehaven around 2.30am on Saturday.
The alarm was raised after people living near the supermarket heard a loud bang.
It is not yet known how much money was stolen.
The theft follows similar raids across Scotland in the past few months.
Thieves stole a five-figure sum from a cash machine in Kirriemuir just before Christmas while two cash machines were stolen from a Banchory supermarket a month later.
And in April ram-raiders made off with an ATM from inside a North Queensferry grocery store.
Last month, £50,000 was stolen from a cash machine in Abbeygreen, Lanarkshire.
Detectives investigating the latest theft say they are keeping an open mind over whether or not it is linked to the earlier crimes.
Police believe Liverpool men Adam Murphy and Adam White may have been involved. They were part of a gang of nine men who raided 31 ATMs across the country.
Detective Inspector Stewart Mackie said officers are keen to trace a dark grey estate car seen leaving the Tesco car park in Newtonhill shortly after the theft.
