Perth City Hall could be set to open its doors again as food market
ByPaul Reoch
Perth City Hall could open its doors once more if a radical plan for a food market gets the green light from councillors.
The Edwardian listed building shut its doors in 2005.
Opinion on its future use has been fiercely divided in the city, with the local authority keen to raze it to the ground and create a civic square in its place.
However, Historic Scotland has fought for retention and following years of alternative proposals being submitted and discussed by councillors a market hall plan is now being recommended by the council’s head of planning.
Applicant Perth Market Place Ltd claimed the market hall proposal would lead to the “revival” of the whole of Perth city centre.
