Jimmy Moir, who worked at Perth’s Murray Royal Hospital reception for 42 years, has died aged 69.
Although born in Aberdeen, from the age of five Mr Moir lived in Perth.
Though childhood polio left him with disabilities he did not allow these to interfere with living a full life, which included medals for swimming and diving at school and the challenge of cycling up and down Lochie Brae to his work.
Having remained single, he was the last of his family after his mother, Margaret, died but he maintained close relationships with his friends from schooldays and their families.
Ill health and disenchantment with changes the NHS was implementing led to his retirement in his early sixties.
