Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack which took place in Burntisland.
The incident happened sometime between 8.30pm and 10pm last Thursday in Lochies Road, adjacent to The Sands Hotel.
A 15-year-old girl was in the area when two men approached before attacking her.
The matter was subsequently reported to police on Tuesday and officers have since been conducting local inquiries to establish the full circumstances of this report.
Police say at this time there is no description of the suspects available and so police are keen to speak to anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in or around Lochies Road last Thursday.
In addition, anyone who remembers seeing the victim, who is described as slim with long blonde and pink hair and wearing black leggings, black crop top and a light coloured jacket, is also asked to contact police immediately.
Detective Inspector June Peebles said: “We are currently trying to determine exactly what has happened during this incident and would urge members of the public who can assist with our investigation to come forward.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
