Police find 200,000 indecent child images on man’s computers

A Fife man who was found to have 200,000 indecent child images on the computers in his home has avoided a jail sentence.

The images had been amassed over a period of almost seven years by Neil Comerie, who appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court yesterday.

Comerie, 45, of Burt Grove, Dunfermline, admitted that between January 1 2008 and October 30 last year, at his home he took or allowed to be taken or made indecent photographs or pseudo- photographs of children.

He also admitted that between the same dates he was in possession of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children.

The home of Comerie, who was accompanied in court by a signer for the deaf, was searched by police and various computers were seized.

The 200,000 images were found on seven computer hard drives examined by forensic investigators.

Defence solicitor Sarah Meehan said her client suffered from “significant difficulties”.

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with two years supervision and Comerie was also put on the sex offenders register for two years.
