Frank Young, a former chief superintendent with Tayside Police, has died aged 81. Mr Young rose from a police constable to one of the region’s most senior officers in just 12 and a half years. A devotee of “bobbies on the beat” policing, he sought to foster closer links between the community and officers in a career spanning 32 years. Born and raised in Dundee, Mr Young attended Rockwell High School, leaving to join Cox’s Mill as a company clerk. He carried out National Service with The Black Watch between 1952 and 1954, leaving as a corporal to join Dundee City Police. Having reached the rank of chief superintendent for the Western Division of Tayside Police, he retired in 1986. Mr Young was recognised for his services with an MBE in 1983. After leaving the force, he worked as a security adviser for the Distilleries Group now Diageo until his final retirement in 1994. Mr Young is survived by wife Muriel, sons Steven and Mark, daughter Valerie and six grandchildren. His funeral will be held at Dundee Crematorium on Monday at 11.45am.
