Dundee Science secured over £1 million of funding for ambitious expansion plans.
The Centre, which this year celebrates its 15th anniversary, began life as a Millennium Commission project.
One of Scotland’s four science centres, it first opened its doors in July 2000 and has proved a huge success.
Over time it has evolved into a learning centre, social venue and festival hub as well as a teaching resource.
More than £1.1M of funding has now been secured to drive a major £1.7M expansion within the Centre, focusing on medical technologies.
The Wellcome Trust has awarded £850,000 towards the proposals which will focus on non-invasive medical technologies and state-of-the-art learning facilities, including a lecture theatre and live links to Ninewells Hospital clinicians.
Acting CEO Linda Leuchars said: “Dundee Science Centre is here to help families learn together, to support the formal school curriculum, advance the science communication profession and bring together science and all sectors of the public, including ‘hard-to-reach’ communities.
“Our exhibitions are open 363 days per year, providing an inspiring, hands-on learning experience for everyone to visit.
“Our outreach work and festivals also help us take the same experiences across Scotland and beyond.”
Should the remaining funding be secured on time, the project could be completed by the end of 2016,
