A Dundee dad has vowed to stand by the son jailed for leaving him with broken ribs in a violent attack in his own home.
Patrick Conway, 46, also expressed his disappointment that son Dylan, 20, had received a “harsh” sentence. Mr Conway said he was willing to forgive his son and work on rebuilding their relationship.
Conway, of Lansdowne Court, was jailed for nearly two-and-a-half years at Dundee Sheriff Court after admitting that he assaulted his father at his Kirk Street home on May 28.
He also pleaded guilty on indictment to charges of wilful fireraising after setting fire to his dad’s front door on September 14 last year. Conway further admitted breaching bail on October 12 last year.
Mr Conway said: “The sentence seems harsh. I had hoped that he would get 18 months, which would mean that because of the time he has already served, he would be out by Christmas.
“Now I can only hope he will be with me for Christmas the following year. I’ll just have to settle for sending him a Christmas card this year.
“I can only hope that Dylan has learned his lesson. This is harsh but if it changes him it will be worth it.
“Dylan is a young man with plenty time to turn his life around. When he is released from prison I will be waiting for him.”
