It is one of the biggest jobs in broad casting co-presenting Top Gear alongside Chris Evans.
And the BBC is neither denying nor confirming that Dundee-born model and actress Maxie Reynolds, 26, is being lined up for the position.
Maxie, who is originally from Ardler and now lives in Los Angeles, applied for the job earlier this month.
Last month, Chris, who is taking over as host of the show, said he “100%” confirmed the new line-up will include a woman.
Maxie said: “It would be more than I deemed possible at this stage of my career, but I’ll go at it guns blazing.”
The former Miss Scotland finalist left Dundee five years ago to pursue her dreams of stardom in LA.
She was brought up by her mum Maxine McGhee, a single parent, and attended Lawside Academy.
In 2010, she made it to the finals of Miss Scotland, but missed out on winning the title.
Maxie left Dundee aged 21 and relocated to Norway, then Venezuela before settling in the USA.
She started modelling and acting in LA and has a new role in TV show House of Cards.
Maxie lives in Beverly Hills with her partner but visits Dundee whenever possible.
“My life here is completely different,” she said.
“When I wake up in the morning here, I might have to go to meetings about a film or modelling job.
“When I wake up back home I’ve got to call my gran to make sure she remembered to lock her front door.”
A BBC spokeswoman said: “We are not commenting on Top Gear.”
