A musician and his family had a lucky escape after their car caught fire and exploded while parked at a Highland beauty spot.
Gordon Dougall, from Edinburgh, was driving home from a holiday on Mull with his partner, actress Fletcher Mathers, their children Callum, 13, Morven, 10 , and Zu Zu their dog.
Just outside Tyndrum a warning light on the dashboard of the six-year-old Citroen came on and the family pulled up at the Green Welly Stop in the village.
The 60-year-old musical theatre director checked under the bonnet.
He said: “I saw smoke and thought at first it was from the exhaust. Then I saw the flames, so got Fletcher and the children out of the car and made a dash for safety.
“When we were all safe we looked back and saw the flames spreading along the front of the car then it just exploded. We got away with seconds to spare.”
A fire appliance was soon on the scene and the flames were doused but the family lost all their belongings.
