Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon has received a big blow with the news that Lewis Toshney has suffered ankle ligament damage.
The former Celtic and Scotland Under-21 defender picked up the injury during his side’s Petrofac Training Cup derby against Cowdenbeath at Central Park on Saturday and had to be stretchered off after receiving lengthy treatment.
Now, McKinnon is resigned to being without the player for this weekend’s League Cup tie with Albion Rovers as well as the Championship opener against Livingston.
The manager said: “It was really unfortunate as Lewis just tried to turn but his foot caught in a divot.
“He was sent to hospital for an X-ray and thankfully the ankle isn’t broken.
“However, he has damaged his ligaments and he is on crutches.
“We are not sure yet how long he will be out for.
“He will definitely miss Saturday but we will have Kyle Benedictus back from suspension.
“We have a problem though the following week as Kyle is suspended again for the league game.
“So we do not have our troubles to seek especially as Craig Barr is also still out.
“However, I am absolutely devastated for Lewis.
“He has been outstanding for us and hopefully he can get back as quickly as possible.”
