Almost 7,000 in Dundee are at risk of developing eye disease

A charity has claimed that nearly 7,000 people are at risk of developing a degenerating eye condition in Dundee.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects around 500,000 people across the United Kingdom.
The condition makes it difficult for the person to make out faces or even watch television, and recent research by the Macular Society found that around 6,813 people in the city are at risk.
Cathy Yelf, chief executive of the Macular Society, said: “Macular degeneration can be a devastating condition and very many people are now affected as we live longer.
“We recommend that people have their eyes tested regularly, as opticians can detect early AMD.”
