A man who robbed an elderly woman in Leven earlier this year has been jailed.
Kieran Michael Donnelly was convicted of robbing his 86-year-old victim of her handbag as she walked along Durie Street on March 25.
Although she was uninjured, the woman was left very shaken as a result of this incident and officers conducted local inquiries to trace Donnelly.
The 31-year-old was also sentenced to 30 months in prison at Kirkcaldy Shriff Court on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant Alexander Raeside, who led the investigation said: “This was a cowardly attack on an elderly woman and Donnelly showed absolutely no regard for the well-being of his victim.
“It is a testament to her character that she has then found the courage to give evidence during the trial.
“This crime shocked the local community of Leven and I would like to thank those members of the public who assisted us and provided valuable information that ultimately has led to this conviction.
“Crimes of this nature remain rare but will not be tolerated when they occur and we will use all resources at our disposal to bring those responsible to justice.”
