Angus business Stirfresh has added Montrose manager and Dundee United legend Paul Hegarty to its team.
The firm, based at Upper Dysart, near Montrose, is a Dundee United healthy eating partner and supplies produce to the players in the senior team and the club youths.
Stirfresh owner Andrew Stirling said: “We are a family-run company and want our Scottish children to be educated from an early age, leaving school with an ability to cook even if it’s just a pot of soup. This made the decision to take on Montrose FC manager Paul an easy decision.
“We want to use Paul’s knowledge of health and fitness to speak to schools and students, as well as sharing some of his stories of beating Barcelona and Roma and playing against Maradona for Scotland.”
Hegarty signed for United in 1974 and led the club to the League Cup in 1979 and 1980 and the league title in 1983. He also played in many notable victories in European competition and appeared eight times for Scotland.
Stirfresh supplies schools, hospitals, care homes, universities, hotels and restaurants with fresh, Scottish produce, while Aldi stocks its fresh soup mixes.
“We would like to interact with sports clubs and schools on the nutritional levels, using Scottish produce as much as possible,” added Mr Stirling.
