Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Henry Pyrgos will captain Scotland when the Dark Blues kick-off their World Cup preparations with Saturday’s clash with Ireland in Dublin.
Head coach Vern Cotter has named a 25-man squad for the Aviva Stadium Test, with four potential new caps – Hugh Blake, Mike Cusack, Allan Dell and Stuart McInally – all hoping they will make their international bow when the starting XV is confirmed on Thursday.
The Ireland fixture is the first of four warm-up internationals which Cotter will use to assess his group before slashing an extended 47-man squad to his final list of 31 on September 2.
Scotland take on Japan in Gloucester in their opening Pool B match on September 23.
