An Angus knife attacker has been jailed for two years.
Scott Carruthers presented a blade at his partner in an incident at a house on Provost Reid’s Road, Montrose, in which he also threatened to kill a police officer responding to the incident.
Appearing on indictment at Forfar Sheriff Court, 27-year-old Carruthers, a prisoner at Perth, was told by a sheriff that the knife offence could have had “fatal consequences”.
Carruthers previously admitted the March 29 offence, when he was on bail, and defence agent Billy Rennie said the accused had been on remand for the matter since then.
“He is under no illusion that there is no option other than custody,” Mr Rennie said.
“Drinking has been a factor from his teenage years and has led to a lot of his problems.
“He still has contact with his ex-partner but the relationship is over. He ultimately admitted a torrent of abuse towards police officers, none of which would have been seen through in any shape or form.
“In the charge involving the knife, he grabbed it and presented it at the time but he didn’t hold it to her and he realised the error of his ways and defused the situation by leaving the house. He realised his anger had got the better of him.”
Sheriff Murray told Carruthers: “You have issues with anger control, especially when you are drinking, and picking up a knife could have fatal consequences.”
Also appearing at Forfar, Mark Davidson, 30, of Garrison Road, Montrose, was ordered to do 60 hours’ unpaid work after admitting sending abusive text messages to a woman at a house in the town in January.
