Dundonians are set to benefit from a multi-million-pound state-of-the-art sports facility.
Dundee City Council has this week announced £12 million of investment for the venue, which will offer a full-size football pitch, eight multi-sports halls as well as an indoor running straight and various other sporting facilities.
The remaining £5m of capital required will be invested by sportscotland.
The Regional Performance Centre for Sport is to be built in the city’s Caird Park and is expected to be completed by December 2017.
Both Dundee and Dundee Utd have been involved in the development of the centre.
Policy and resources convener Ken Guild hailed the council’s investment and predicted that the centre would be a huge boost to the city.
He said: “We have a long track record of working with sportscotland to successfully deliver major sports investment in Dundee including the Dick McTaggart Centre and the new Olympia.
“The centre is another exciting development for the city and is another addition to a superb range of sporting facilities.
“I am keen that as many people as possible in the city can benefit from this excellent range of facilities.”
“Caird Park is an ideal location for this impressive centre.”
