Holly smoke! Bus driver spots burning bush in Dundee city centre
ByThe Courier Reporter
Fire crews were called to the Howff in Dundee city centre on Monday after a holly tree in the cemetery caught fire.
The Dundee Howff Conservation Group said a passing bus driver spotted the smoke and alerted Scottish Fire and Rescue.
A statement posted on the group’s Facebook page said: “At about 5pm tonight our much loved holly tree caught alight.
“We would like to thank the bus driver who phoned 999 and the fire brigade for their very fast response. Without them we hate to think how out of control the situation could have been.
“At the moment we don’t know the cause or how much damage there is but we’ll update when we can.”
A later post added: “The tree is listed as part of the site so will hopefully be cared for sympathetically.
“We’ll be speaking to the council once it’s been properly assessed to find out what the plan will be.”
