The remains of an American tourist found dead in Highland Perthshire have been flown back to her home country.
Susan McLean was discovered in woodland south of Aberfeldy almost three months after disappearing while on holiday with her family at the Moness Resort.
Her body was found following an exhaustive search organised by long-time friend Lorna VanderZanden.
The 61-year-old’s elder sister, Anna Eliot, flew across the Atlantic the following day.
Mrs McLean was cremated in Scotland and her ashes have since been taken back to the US by Ms Eliot.
A memorial service is set to take place next month.
Ms Eliot thanked those who had helped bring Mrs McLean home. She said: “The family of Susan McLean would like to express profound gratitude to the people of Scotland who dedicated precious time and energy to her recovery.
“The family is heartened by the compassion of the people of Perthshire, the men and women of Police Scotland, and the Perth and Kinross officials, all of whom were instrumental in ensuring her return home with dignity.
“A memorial service will be planned for a future date.”
Ms Eliot also paid tribute to her sibling.
“Susan Creighton Gould was born and grew up in Groton, Massachusetts,” she said.
“Susan will be remembered for all her courage, ebullience and generosity.”
The Pennsylvania resident disappeared from her holiday lodge on May 17.
Police carried out searches of the area surrounding the town but she was found by volunteers on August 15.
