The Dundee Flower and Food Festival at Camperdown Park will start today.

A whole host of events are scheduled for the three-day gala, which is expected to attract more than 25,000 visitors.

Masterchef host Gregg Wallace will be there tomorrow along with four local finalists who featured in Masterchef: The Professionals to show off their culinary skills.

Celebrity chef Tony Singh will give a demonstration in contemporary Scottish cooking on Sunday.

Environment convener Craig Melville said: “Things are shaping up for a very successful festival.

“We have had good pre-sales so it looks like it will be very well attended.

“We’ve had more than 20,000 people come along over the weekend in the past and are expecting similar numbers this year.

“I’ve heard the weather will be quite good and we have been lucky in the past it’s always a great, family friendly atmosphere.”

As well as celebrity guests, the festival will play host to competitions for amateur chefs and gardeners.

The best growers of fruit, vegetables and flowers will pit their skills against each other in an attempt to scoop the title in their respective disciplines.

Mr Melville said: “The contests are always great. New for this year is a Scotch broth competition.

“The food tent has more than 40 stalls offering all kinds of grub, from buffalo burgers and smokies, to a number of different kinds of cheeses.”

For those interested in growing vegetables, renowned gardening writer Martin Fish will host the Kitchen Garden Magazine Roadshow, which will give tips and demonstrations on how to get the best out of your garden.

CBeebies star Mr Bloom is also attending to entertain younger guests.

Over the course of the weekend, there will be performances from local music, dance and theatre groups including Tayside Young Fiddlers, Bharatiya Ashram and Kirkton Community Rock Choir.

Acts such as Dougie MacLean and Celtic folk outfit, Session A9, will bring the weekend to a close.

Tickets cost £12 per day for adults and £11 for concessions. Accompanied children under 16 get in free.Forecasters predicting sunshineForecasters have predicted this is “one of the best weekends” to hold the Dundee Flower and Food Festival.

The Met Office has said Friday will start a little overcast but after that it should remain dry.

Saturday should be particularly warm and sunny, according to experts.

Laura Young, a forecaster at the Met Office, said she predicted good weather.

She said: “If you have planned an outdoor festival for the weekend, it’s one of the best weekends to do so.

“Dundee is set for a dry and settled weekend, with Friday starting a little cloudy and overcast, but brightening up in the afternoon.

“Saturday will have a really good, sunny start.

“There may be a few cloudy spells and a moderate breeze but expect dry and sunny weather.

“Sunday will start overcast but most of the cloud should burn off in the afternoon. Expect highs of 16C or 17C, possibly creeping up to 18C on Sunday.”

Even if it does rain, much of the festival can take place under cover.
