Gloag family abduction accused returned to prison

One of the men accused of abduction and robbing from members of the Gloag family has been sent back to prison on remand.

Christopher McMultan had been ordered to attend a psychiatric hospital for a 28-day assessment but that was revoked at Perth Sheriff Court.

The psychiatric assessment was brought to an early end and McMultan was returned to Perth prison with immediate effect by Sheriff William Wood at a private hearing.

McMultan had been due to be detained at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth until March 5 but he was returned to court after an initial psychiatric assessment.

Brian Martin, 57, and McMultan, 40, are alleged to have abducted members of the Gloag family while armed with knives, and stolen over £200,000 worth of jewellery and cash.

Martin and McMultan are both alleged to have stormed into the family home before ordering them to the floor and binding their wrists and feet with tape.

The charges allege that the pair then threatened members of the Gloag family with knives and threats of violence before stealing £200,000 worth of jewellery and £4,000 in cash.
