Link between Perthshire rail incident and Angus derailment ruled out
ByThe Courier Reporter
Police have ruled out a link between a train derailment in Angus and an incident in Perthshire which saw a large piece of wood “deliberately” dumped on the line.
None of the passengers were hurt when a train struck the object near Grange level crossing on Friday September 27 at 9pm.
Travellers also escaped injury when an Edinburgh to Aberdeen train’s front wheels left the track after it struck an object at Inverkeilor on November 4 2012.
A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “There is nothing to suggest a link with the incident at Grange crossing, Perthshire.”
Police issued a new appeal for information about the Inverkeilor derailment yesterday after they said no one had been charged.
A £25,000 reward offered by the rail industry can still be claimed by anyone who can help police find those responsible.
A BTP spokesman said: “No one has been arrested and inquiries are ongoing.”
Details of the incident at Grange emerged on Wednesday when BTP issued a similar appeal.
Anyone with information about either incident should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016.
