Coupar Angus pensioner warned by sheriff for walking stick assault

A Perthshire pensioner has received a further warning to stay out of trouble following a dispute with neighbours.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher told Cathie Mustard he “wasn’t convinced” her assault with a walking stick was a one-off.
The 73-year-old was found guilty following a trial last year of repeatedly hitting a man with the wooden cane.
The incident took place near her home at George Street, Coupar Angus, on November 29.
Mustard was also found guilty of assaulting another neighbour on the same date by punching her on the face and attempting to strike her with the walking stick.
Deferring sentence until July 2 for the pensioner to be of good behaviour, Sheriff Fletcher advised her to stay out of trouble.
“I wasn’t convinced this was a one-off. I thought it was going to keep happening,” he said.
“That’s why I deferred for six months and, frankly, I’m inclined to defer for a further six months. I do not think it has gone away and I am not satisfied that is the end of matters.”
