Olympic gold winner to get behind wheel at Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally

An Olympian will swap her sled for a steering wheel as she continues her campaign to become an international rally driver.

Amy Williams, who won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics for skeleton racing, will take part in this year’s Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally in Highland Perthshire.

After injuries forced her to retire from the sport, which involves hurtling down a slalom track at speeds of up to 90mph, she has taken on another adrenaline-fuelled challenge.

Amy will partner Formula One presenter Tony Jardine to earn her licence, which will allow her to compete in the World Rally Championship in November.

The pair have already enjoyed success, winning their class at the GWF Energy Merrick Stages Rally in Wigtownshire.

Also appearing at the popular event, which takes place on October 5, will be fellow Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, who will be Jim McRae’s co-driver in the course car.

Although the main event takes place over one day, Aberfeldy will be making the most of its annual visit from the Coltness Car Club.

Over three days, Breadalbane Community Campus will be a hub of high-powered activity, starting on October 4 with a display of two rally cars, a vintage Mini and a Vauxhall Nova.

From 7.30am on October 5, competitors will be leaving the town square before returning at about 9.30am for servicing.

The weekend will end with a community car boot sale on October 6 between 10am and 2pm.
