A Montrose man admitted at Arbroath Sheriff Court carrying out a brutal nightclub assault.
During Tuesday’s hearing, the court heard David Greig repeatedly punched a man while he lay unconscious on the ground. Greig, 30, of Queen Street, carried out the assault at The Yard in Montrose’s George Street on March 31.
He admitted lunging at his victim, struggling with him, repeatedly punching him on the face, rendering him unconscious. His sentence was deferred until November 5 for background reports.
Sheriff William Wood said the court required the reports to “consider all the options available”.
Deputy fiscal Hazel Anderson said his victim suffered swelling and bruising to his left eye.
She said: “Neither the complainer or the accused could remember any of this incident, which was captured on CCTV.
“It shows Greig approaching the man and lunging at him. There is a struggle and both men fall to the ground. While on the ground, the accused straddles him and punches him to the head.
“The complainer initially fends off the accused but then his arms go limp, consistent with him being unconscious.”
