Ryan McGowan will miss Dundee United’s match against Ross County next weekend after his red card against Celtic was upheld. The defender was sent off against the Hoops in the Scottish Cup quarter-final replay for a challenge on Liam Henderson and was set to miss two games. However, an appeal allowed him to play in the league fixture against Celtic three days later, which they lost 3-0. But the SFA’s judicial panel have rejected United’s claim for wrongful dismissal and the original two-match ban now stands. That means he will miss the visit of Ross County next Saturday and the first Scottish Cup fixture of next season. It ends a successful run of appeals for United of late. They successfully challenged bans handed to Paul Paton and Nadir Ciftci.
