Dundee lord provost Bob Duncan is recovering at home after suffering a stroke.
Mr Duncan, 69, described his ordeal as a “real fright”, but added he was well on the road to recovery and hopes to be back at work by the end of this week.
He said: “Unfortunately, I recently suffered a very minor stroke. I got a real fright.
“It was classified as a very minor stroke, but it still left me very sore down one side.”
Mr Duncan said he went straight to Ninewells Hospital where various tests were carried out to determine what had happened.
He added: “I am seeing my doctor again later this week and after that I should know more about what happened.
“However, I am feeling much better and am definitely back on the road to recovery.”
Mr Duncan said he has made lifestyle changes that he hopes will help his health.
The lord provost suffered the stroke last month and at the time there was no public announcement about his condition.
However, staff members at a Lochee dental surgery who were expecting him to open a new disabled ramp on November 12 were informed he would not be able to attend the event because he was in hospital.
Only the previous evening he had attended Dundee City Council committee meetings.
The lord provost has missed some events in Dundee since, including the tributes in City Square for the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.
Mr Duncan became councillor for the Balgay ward in 2003 before becoming lord provost in 2012.
