A Good Samaritan has criticised police for tweeting about a dramatic Tayside breakdown while the incident was ongoing.
An elderly couple sparked rush-hour panic on Tuesday after stopping to change a tyre on the inside lane of the A90 near Stracathro.
Police attended the incident and pushed the car to the side of the road but the couple were left on the grass verge of the busy dual carriageway after officers left without being able to replace the burst tyre.
Dundee plumber Alan McLean and his friend and work colleague Davie Beveridge spotted the distressed driver at the side of the road and stopped to help.
Alan, 27, said he was left “totally enraged” when he discovered that the police had left the pair but had still taken to Twitter to write “#CouldntMakeItUp” when announcing the incident.
He said that if the officer concerned “had taken enough time to think about the welfare of the elderly people rather than sending out a tweet, they might have dealt with the incident more safely and efficiently.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland Tayside Division said the officers had called for the couple’s roadside assistance provider and were happy that the car was clear of the carriageway and the couple were safe.
