Former Dundee United midfielder Prince Buaben has brought speculation over his future to an end by signing a contract with Carlisle United.
The 25-year-old Ghanaian looked at one stage like he may have been on the verge of a return to Tannadice after joining ex-team-mate and close friend Morgaro Gomis in training with Jackie McNamara’s side.
But, while Gomis was offered a deal, Buaben remained in limbo and moved north for a week’s training with New Firm rivals Aberdeen although the Dons cooled any apparent interest they had in the player by stating that Buaben was merely maintaining his fitness at Pittodrie.
That kept the door open for a move to United if McNamara’s budget would allow, but Buaben has now opted to commit himself to English League One outfit Carlisle.
Buaben was a fans’ favourite at Tannadice during his time there and was part of the United squad that won the Scottish Cup in 2010.
He moved to England to join Watford in 2011 and made 31 appearances for the Hornets until a long-term thigh injury eventually led to his release from the English Championship club.
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes said he was “surprised” Buaben had not been offered a deal during his spell back north of the border.
“Prince is a player I have always liked so you do what you can when people like him need a helping hand,” he said.
