Victim’s ‘endless sorrow’ after drug addict loses wedding and engagement rings after break-in
ByGraeme Ogston
A Dundee housebreaker’s heartless theft of irreplaceable wedding and engagement rings caused her victim “endless sorrow”, a court heard.
Drug addict Dannielle Lockhart took a cocktail of heroin, Valium and vodka before smashing a cottage window and making off with the jewellery as the occupants holidayed abroad.
The court heart Lockhart’s victim Ruth Pierronnet had been left constantly “on edge” as a result and even considered moving home due to the “emotional distress” caused.
The 22-year-old, who has a string of previous convictions, was jailed for 16 months at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Despite being repeatedly asked by Sheriff Alastair Brown what she had done with the rings, Lockhart maintained that she could not remember.
