A man who headbutted a paramedic after being found lying in the street has received a six-month Community Payback Order.
Alexander Johnstone’s lawyer told Forfar Sheriff Court that his client was suffering a seizure in the incident but the court heard the 36-year-old was under the influence of a cocktail of drink and diazepam.
Johnstone, of Glenmoy Terrace, Forfar, previously admitted assaulting the paramedic on June 10 in the town’s South Street by butting him on the face.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said police on routine patrol saw the accused lying on the ground, conscious and breathing but shaking uncontrollably.
They summoned medical assistance and the paramedic arrived with a colleague.
“He got to his feet and was encouraged to make his way to the ambulance to be checked over,” said the fiscal.
“Suddenly, without warning, he headbutted the paramedic, striking him on the right cheek.”
Defence solicitor Bob Bruce said his client has various health issues and was suffering the seizure.
Johnstone was also ordered to carry out 75 hours of unpaid work.
