Britain will provide another £100 million of aid for the victims of Syria’s civil war, Justine Greening has told a United Nations conference.
The International Development Secretary’s pledge takes the UK total so far to £600 million – the country’s biggest response to a humanitarian crisis.
But as other wealthy nations were accused of failing to play their part in alleviating the suffering, she appealed to other countries not to “ignore” the plight of civilians.
Ms Greening is attending a donor conference in Kuwait, where the United Nations is seeking commitments towards its record 6.5 billion US dollars (£3.95 billion) appeal for funds.
The US – already the biggest single donor – said it would provide an additional 380 million US dollars (£231 million).
