Bookmaker rips up ransom demand from gun-wielding Fife robber
ByThe Courier Reporter
A hardy bookmaker ripped up a ransom demand in the face of a gun-wielding Fife robber.
Scotbet worker Peter Morris tore up the threatening letter from Methil man Barry Shepherd during the botched hold-up in January.
Shepherd, 40, went into the Edinburgh premises and wrote on a betting slip, “Be quiet. Fill the bag with cash or I will shoot you in the face. Chop Chop!!”
However the unfazed Mr Morris refused the demand and challenged the would-be thief to shoot him.
Shepherd appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh where he admitted charges relating to the incident, and another robbery, during which he had possession of a imitation gun.
Lady Scott deferred sentence for the preparation of a background report and remanded him in custody.
