A Fife woman has appealed for witnesses to come forward after both she and her elderly mother were subjected to a violent attack in Glasgow on Friday.
Eighty-three-year-old Jess McGarrity, from Burntisland, and her 60-year-old daughter Linda Davidson, who lives in Kirkcaldy, had been enjoying a day out in the city when they were attacked by a man in Glasgow Green at around 2.30pm.
Both women suffered serious facial injuries and were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for further treatment.
Police have now appealed for witnesses to the “cowardly and unprovoked” attack to come forward and believe the assault may have been seen by a number of people.
And, speaking about their ordeal to The Courier, Linda has called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice as soon as possible.
“To be honest, I can’t look at the picture of my mum too much because it’s absolutely terrible,” she said.
“We’d been having a great day out, we’d just been for lunch and then all of sudden there were stones being thrown at us and then this young man, putting it politely, came right up and swung for my mum.
“He was just so aggressive and it was totally unprovoked.
“I’d have to tie my hands if I saw him now, first of all, but if I saw him now I’d ask ‘Why? Where was the challenge?’
“We’ve put the picture of my mum up because I want whoever has done this to see what they have done, and hopefully someone will come forward.”
Detective Constable Paul Fraser, from London Road CID in Glasgow, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and cowardly attack on an elderly woman and her daughter who had come to Glasgow to enjoy a day out.
“Both victims have been left very distressed by the ordeal and have returned home to Fife.
“Glasgow Green would been busy around the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“In particular we would like to speak to the driver of a coach who witnessed the attack and went to their assistance.
“We would urge him to come forward as soon as possible.”
The women had been outside the People’s Palace on Monteith Row when the man approached and violently attacked them without warning.
The man, who is described as white, around 20-years-old, of medium build and 5ft 8in tall, then ran off along Montieth Road towards London Road.
He was also said to be wearing dark clothing and was carrying a dark rucksack at the time.
Anyone with information can contact police via the 101 number or alternatively through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where all calls will remain anonymous.
