Dundee’s restaurant renaissance has taken a further step forward, after a major burger chain announced plans to open in the city.
The Boozy Cow which already has outlets in Aberdeen and Edinburgh hopes to join chains like Five Guys and Krispy Kreme in moving to the City of Discovery.
The owner of the Boozy Cow chain, Gareth Wood, said the company is “90%” of the way to opening an outlet in Dundee, as well as Stirling. This year the chain announced it would begin donating all its profits to charity once it is “fully operational”.
He said: “We are very excited about the brand, so much so we’re expanding into other cities in Scotland. In Stirling and Dundee, we have locations that we have identified and we’re well down the line of negotiating, and that’s something we are looking forward to.
“We’ve spent a lot of time identifying locations which would work and we love the two cities. They are both very different but we think we have a unique offering and, with our charity angle, I think it’s a concept that’s very attractive for people to try.”
While it is not yet known which charity the Dundee Boozy Cow could support, its Aberdeen branch currently gives money to the ARCHIE Foundation, as well as social care charity VSA.
The announcement that the Boozy Cow could open in Dundee comes hot on the heels of similar statements of intent from other companies.
Last week doughnut chain Krispy Kreme confirmed it would open an outlet somewhere in the centre of Dundee.
Plans to open a Five Guys burger restaurant in the Overgate shopping centre are also well under way. That restaurant could open as early as October and planners believe it could bring significant economic benefits to the city centre.
According to the Boozy Cow website, the restaurant chain hopes to be able to donate £1 million to charity by 2018.
