Police patrols will be stepped up in Kirriemuir after repeated complaints linked to antisocial behaviour.
There will be an increased presence on and around Bank Street after resident Emma MacDonald raised concerns about a perceived lack of action from police to deal with continued reports of antisocial behaviour on her doorstep.
Ms MacDonald, 24, demanded action after claiming to have suffered years of abuse and harassment from drunks, drug addicts and thoughtless dog owners at her home on Manse Close, just off Bank Street.
Her flat sits in a secluded corner at the exit of Manse Close but is used as a shortcut to shops and pubs on Bank Street.
From people urinating on her door step to witnessing incidents of drug abuse outside her window, Ms MacDonald claims to have seen it all, and hit out at local police for a lack of support.
Police have now vowed that, in addition to further investigating Ms MacDonald’s claims, patrols in the area will be increased in a bid to tackle the problem.
A spokeswoman said: “We are acutely aware of the upset that any form of antisocial behaviour can have within a community.
“Local officers have been in touch with the individual involved to discuss matters and provide appropriate advice. Additional patrols will be within the area to offer reassurance to anyone with concerns.
“Antisocial behaviour is always taken seriously and officers work closely with partners to ensure our communities are safe. Anyone with concerns should contact Tayside Division on 101 or Angus Access Line on 08452 777778.”
Ms MacDonald is happy the incidents are now being looked into.
She said: “I’ve had a visit from PC Gail Beattie, and she is going to look into what the police can do. It was nice to be listened to and spoken to as an adult for a change as well.
“It was hopefully a baby step in the right direction, although it’s taken almost five years to get to this point. I’ve had a lot of feedback from people, especially from customers at work, it certainly seems to have got some people thinking.”
